A trip for two graduate students who studied too much
Rather than stars or an oceanside view, Megan and I fall asleep to a different kind of beauty. From our motel window we marvel at the the twinkling airliner lights that move slowly back and forth across the runway. Our shabby but ever so comfortable motel across from the Seattle airport has proven to be more than a building that is in dire need of a new paint job. Our view overlooks the Alaska terminal whose planes sport an image of a man I do not recognize.
In Seattle, we both decided to shed the anxiety & fear of the life changes ahead. Rather we are focusing on today and only today. Next to a waterfall on Mt. Ranier, we are hiking & wondering aloud- partially to avoid encountering any wildlife and partially to get everything off our chest. The trip has been beautiful with sun breaking from a thicket of clouds almost daily by 2 pm. The water that stretches between small chunks of land smells salty & we are excited every time we come across a tide. Tomorrow we set off for the ocean and are prepared to enjoy the shore in sweatshirts & jeans.
