The Last Frost
4.28.2008
I was annoyed at first regarding the talk of frost. I received the phone call from my mom just after I had changed into my pajamas. "You have to cover them with plastic bags," she advised. So I pulled on my jeans, a fresh pair of socks, & Ben's jacket to head back out into the rainy, cold night to cover the perennials. The air is incredibly chilling tonight- a recollection of fall. But tucking my little bluegray perennials in for the night made me notice the sound of leaves rattling in the wind- one of my most favorite sounds. And as I rounded the corner to my backyard that was only lit up by the glow from a neighbor's window, I suddenly saw the lawn (a 16+ hour feat thus far) and it looked. . . full of potential. Not so bad for a chilly, frosty evening.
