Not sure why I absolutely love this picture. But I do!
This weekend I celebrated an 8.5 year reunion with some loverly ladies who I chance encountered a la Earhart Hall whilst on my Big Ten tour starting at Purdue University. (I've attended 3/10 Big Ten schools in my day) Giggles- tons and tons of giggles- were had those two years plus this past weekend. We did all things Chicago and I played the biggest tourist yet taking about 200 pictures. Friday evening we visited all Chicagoland airports with intermissions of dancing to Christmas carols on the radio in cell phone parking lots. Saturday, in 19 degree weather, we drank mulled wine at Christkindlmart, partied at Macys in a million different departments, attended Millenium Park ice skating, and enjoyed the Christmas lights at the Lincoln Park Zoo. Toes did not go numb until 9 pm. The best part: we literally sang (mostly Christmas carols) and danced everywhere we went the entire day. I love gathering with old friends who gently remind me about the rockin' awesome experiences I've in the past.
1. Making Kari's 2oth birthday special by photocopying her picture (with my stuffed animal Frog wrapped around her neck) and placing both picture photocopies and chalk drawings/ happy birthday wishes all over campus. Particularly focusing on her path to class- including a big fat picture of her on her classroom doors where all her classmates caught on to the special birthday and wished her a happy day as well.
2. Secretly moving Kari out of that crazy roommates room. It was illegal to move rooms so Stef, Kari, and I had to "sneak" Kari's belongings out of her room by wearing layers and layers of her clothes at a time while making our way across the dorm to another room. I'm sure NO ONE was suspicious of our behavior and laughter that equaled the amount of laughter usually followed by wetting one's pants.
3. Running (literally running) all over campus on Saturday nights while tromping through fountains & taking pictures all the while. I have so many pictures of us in action. Sometimes we wore chaps and silly outfits that clashed.
4. My secret names for boys I thought were adorable in coffee shops. I uniquely coded them as "corner" or "glasses" or "artist" or "Billy Idol" and would SOS them to Karen as they entered and exited our little coffee shop domain.
5. Our dance moves- how I would jump up on a chair at any point in time and begin interpretive leg dancing fit with probably a little lip syncing. And don't forget the special night I invented the Holy Cross meets Staying Alive. Sigh. I love you, Ladies.
