This is how the conversation went:0 comments
Scene: Me (occupational therapist) and patient (code name Missy) who is an adorable 14 year old girl with long brown pony tail, men's sweat shorts, a strong heart for success, & huge brown eyes. We are completing her favorite part of therapy on the pulleys. I am squished between an obnoxiously large basketball hoop, the pulley machine, and a sweedish arm lift that hasn't been used in years. Clearly our therapy gym is a tight space.
Me: I think we should have some fun. Do something crafty. I catch the eye of Missy's incredibly sweet mom and she glows in the excitment of a craft.
Missy: How about making popsicles?Missy looks heartbreakingly hopeful and for a moment I pause, pondering what grape juice would freeze best.
Missy's Mom: Missy, what about something festive?
Missy: Like Christmas cookies?
Me: Like stockings?
Missy's Mom: Like a gingerbread house? Missy's eyes light up in a way that only a teenager's eyes can light up. For this I (as well as half the staff of therapists) totally adore her. She gasps in excitement. Missy: A Christmas Hummer! Missy's Mom's face literally drops but I already am plotting yellow skittles for the tail lights.
I so here I sit Monday evening, partially attending to House with Ben while crafting a template for our Gingerbread Hummer out of Raisin Bran cereal cardboard. Final results of the little Christmas Hummer who found the meaning of Christmas (& self realized her ridiculous high gas consumption) to come!
