We started the short road-trip/camping-trip with just two girls, a sprinkle of Simon and Garfunkel, and Dairy Queen ice cream treats. After Rachel fell asleep in the passenger seat, I had a heart to heart with myself regarding crabby-ness. I had become quite grumpy earlier that Friday afternoon at work and needed to knock out any lingering, unneccessary crabby-ness. It's just sometimes I really wish I could take my patient's pain away- shoulder, wrist, neck, skin, coping- and sometimes, I just can't. It disappoints everyone. ("Surely you can do something.") I take this failure very, very hard.0 comments
The sun was setting when we arrived at the hot dog stand just on the outskirts of a small, southern town. The grumpiness was far behind me by then, Rachel was awake again, and we were back to singing with Paul Simon. Ben's new motorcycle greeted Rachel and I in the gravel lot so we knew we were in the right spot to roundez-vou with our Pittsburgh-bound husbands. After a bout of ketchup and smalltown hospitality, we located our campsite where we met up with Kelly, Pat, and a couple dozen delicious Kelly-brownies. We spent the rest of the weekend around a campfire just being goofy, pretending to be theologians, and laughing or group catnapping on a boat anchored in the middle of a lake before the storms blew in.
